Challenge Race for 2021 Dom Perignon Trophy & Mates Must Race | 30 July

This Friday, watch defender Wanderlust and new challenger Kanaloa battle it out for supremacy!

The Mates Must Race runs alongside the penultimate event in this year’s Challenge, but it will follow the same course. To find your individual vessel start time, go to Tentola from 1pm on Friday, 30th July – the sign up sheet will be in the same place.

The 2021 Heineken Cup & Dom Perignon Challenge

For those who are not aware, the Dom Perignon Challenge was initially contested on a Saturday in August (the first being held on 08/08/08) between Kernowek & Jabulani) (now Saluki). The trophy itself can be seen in the trophy cabinet.

Wanderlust is the current Defender of the Dom Perignon Trophy.

The fore-runner to this prestigious event, starting in 2010, is the Heineken Cup and open to all boats & contested, as a summer fun event and sailed without spinnakers, under the following regulations:

  1. The Heineken Cup, this year, is a series of 4 pursuit races of 100 minutes conducted during the month of July.
  2. Each boat competing in the Heineken Cup races will receive a supplement of Vitamin H at each sign on.
  3. The Dom Perignon Defender, Wanderlust, may also take part in the Heineken Cup. If the defender wins the Heineken Cup, the yacht placing 2nd will become the Challenger.
  4. The Challenge Race, for the 2021 Dom Perignon Trophy, will take place on 30 July, starting at 15:00 hours.  
  5. The Dom Perignon Challenger must provide a chilled bottle of Dom Perignon to the bar staff at sign-on and to be consumed by both crews at the conclusion of the race.
  6. The format of both the Challenge Race & the Qualifying Races are at the sole discretion of the race organizer. 
  7. There will be no spitting, biting or swearing! All other rules for the race will be decided by the organizer. The principles of the Rules of Sailing will apply.
