Job Purpose:

The Marine Operations Manager supports the sailing and racing departments by managing the maintenance and operational capabilities of the DOSC fleet of boats, for the whole department, the marine workshop, the boat yard operations, the marina operations, including boat lifting operations. The role is to ensure that all vessels and their equipment are always maintained in a safe and seaworthy condition and within budgeted guidelines

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage all clubs’ vessels maintenance programs and logs
  • Manage and maintain the boat yard in good order for all members and clubs’ vessels
  • Manage and maintain record daily, weekly, and monthly checks of the vessels
  • Manage and maintain all aspects of the marina operations
  • Carry out and oversee Bosuns on day-to-day maintenance of the vessels and repair any defects.
  • Assign and assist specialist contractors brought in to work on the vessels.
  • Manage the annual boat registration with DMCA of the vessels
  • Comply with the instructions relating to safety and maintenance standards
  • Ensure good boat handling and correct safety procedures.
  • Manage boat lifting operations.
  • Oversee Diver team to ensure boat cleaning of DOSC vessels and Members boats.
  • Maintain good relations and communication with volunteers, especially support groups and race volunteers.
  • Manage and maintain up-to-date and accurate financial and administrative records and submit these to the General Manager in a timely manner.

Job Purpose:

The Bosun Supervisor supports the sailing and racing departments in the maintenance and refit of the fleet of boats for the Sailing School, the marina, the marine workshop, boat yard, and assisting with boat lifting operations. The role is to ensure that all vessels and their equipment are always maintained in a safe and seaworthy condition.

Job Purpose

The role of the Dinghy Instructor is to assist the Senior Dinghy Instructor in the organisation and delivery of sailing lessons/courses to Club members, individual visitors, or school groups. The Dinghy Instructor will have responsibility for delivering a fun, active and rewarding sailing experience.

This role is a seasonal position: March 2024 – End of May 2024

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide daily dinghy sailing/powerboating instruction in accordance with the National and Youth RYA Sailing schemes.
  • Ensure RYA standards are adhered to at all times.
  • Provide a high level of safety and instruction for guests both on land, and on the water.
  • Partake in additional waterfront responsibilities including safety cover, customer service and shore-based duties.
  • Implement water safety precautions.
  • Assist with daily maintenance and upkeep of the sailing department and its equipment.
  • Support the management team to organise races and regattas (inflating marks, setting courses, providing safety cover, etc).
  • If suitably qualified, run Powerboating courses in accordance with the RYA powerboating scheme.
  • Assist in the rescue and tow of yachts back to their berth in the marina.

Qualifications – essential

  • Powerboat level 2
  • First Aid certificate valid for the duration of the contract

Job Purpose

This is a hybrid role for a Dinghy Instructor and Race Coach at the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club. As a Dinghy Instructor and Race Coach, you will play a vital role in providing sailing instruction, race coaching, and mentorship to members, guests, school groups, and youth sailors.

This role is a seasonal position: March 2024 – End of May 2024

Job Responsibilities

Dinghy Instructor

  • Provide daily dinghy sailing in accordance with the National and Youth RYA Sailing schemes.
  • Ensure RYA standards are adhered to at all times.
  • Provide a high level of safety and instruction for guests both on land, and on the water.

  • Assist with regatta planning, registration, communication with parents, and attend weekend regattas.
  • Ensure clear communication with fellow coaches for regatta coverage and submit regatta reports.

  • RYA race coach or equivalent
  • First Aid certificate valid for the duration of the contract

DOSC Sailing Academy Program

DOSC is launching its first academy program to help develop and grow aspiring sailing instructors into qualified RYA sailing instructors. The aim of the program is to help diversify and reach out to an untapped talent pool of keen instructors and help them advance within the sailing industry. DOSC provides instructors lots of opportunities to grow and develop themselves and their skills. Successful candidates will initially join the academy program as Assistant Instructors and will receive comprehensive tuition and training.

The timeline for this is 4 months (September through December). Besides training, the candidates will have a mixture of roles and will work alongside Dinghy/Senior Instructors. In January 2025, DOSC will hold an RYA Dinghy Instructor Assessment and will provide a full Dinghy Instructor course. On successful completion of the dinghy instructor course, the candidates will receive an employment contract at DOSC for 2 seasons.

DOSC Sailing Academy program – sample Timeline:

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in delivering sailing and powerboating instruction to students.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance instructional skills.
  • Shadow experienced instructors, gaining hands-on experience and learning best practices.
  • Assist in facilitating sailing programs and events organized by the Club.

  • Maintain sailing equipment and facilities as needed and assist with daily maintenance and upkeep of the sailing department and its equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Sailing experience, preferably in Opti and Laser boats.
