Our Special Olympic Sailors Return to DOSC

Our Special Olympic sailors from Abu Dhabi Marine Club in Abu Dhabi returned to DOSC for a week from 25th of February to the 4th of March.  The dynamic team are practicing for the Special Olympics World Games being held in Berlin, Germany in June 2023. The dream team consists of Unified Partner Aljazie Saif Mehrebi with athlete Rashid Abdulrahman Al-Qabaisi and Unified Partner Salama Adnan Al-Mansouri with athletes Mohamed Saleh al-Zubaidi and Omar Mohmoud al-Qabaisi sailing under the guidance of Coach El Meskini Omar.

7 Days of intense sailing, swimming, gym work and theory managed by Coach Omar, our Sailability Volunteers rose to the occasion once again to prove how dedicated they are in our Sailability Program and assisting our Olympic sailors in the rigging of our Ventures, the art of capsizing, rib and safety assistance and off the water support. Every day for the duration of the training week, volunteers arrived consistently to show their support for our team.

On the Thursday we held a regatta with 5 boats taking part. We laid some marks, set a simple course with a 3-2-1 start sequence, they were then off. 3 back to back races in some really calm wind, all athletes were very competitive but managed to have some fun too.

The week ended with a prize giving on the Sunday afternoon. Participation medals were awarded and our Sailability volunteers were shown appreciation for all their hard work during the week.

Thank you to SARF as well as DOSC, who are so supportive of our Olympic sailors and our students. We value our time with our Olympic  look forward to having our Olympics team back again.
