It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David May on Saturday, 6th March 2021, in Spain.
David was held in great esteem at Dubai Offshore Sailing Club and, indeed, amongst the wider community over the course of his 30-year residency in Dubai.
An active sailor and a valued member of the DOSC Committee for many years, David was one of the Club’s longest serving Commodores; initially acting as Co-Commodore with Paul Dilworth from 2002-03, he went on to held the position alone for several years, from 2003 to 2010.
David was not only a pillar of the sailing community but also highly respected as a businessman across the region. As the General Manager for Khansaheb, a leading UAE construction company, David was involved in the delivery of a number of the country’s most iconic buildings as well as critical roads and infrastructure projects. As Chairman of the British Business Group (Dubai & Northern Emirates) from 1997 to 2002, David was instrumental in drumming up the required support for the construction of a permanent office for the Group: today, ’The David May Building’ still sits proudly in the British Embassy compound as testament to his dedication. David also served as Chair of Governors for Dubai English Speaking School (DESS),
David is survived by his wife, Anne, and a son.
We will be featuring an obituary for David in the upcoming DOSC Yearbook 2021. We urge you to share your memories and any photographs you have of David with us so that we can incorporate them – please send an email to marketing@doscuae.com.
