Sailability is a worldwide, not-for profit, volunteer-based movement that facilitates sailing for everyone regardless of prior experience and level of competence.
DOSC Sailability, powered by GAC, is committed to giving people of determination the opportunity to learn to sail.
We offer a structured sailing program to our students with the assistance of a Senior Sailing Instructor (SI) and a core group of Assistant Instructors (AI’s). Sailability aims to introduce people of determination to sailing activities in a safe and supportive environment, with Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates of Achievement to mark progress.
DOSC Sailability, powered by GAC, offers a structured program that rotates students through a range of land and water based activities, such as sailing theory, wind awareness, knot tying, tacking and gybing skills, kayaking and paddleboarding.
A progress report is kept for every student throughout the season, ensuring that they maximize their potential. At the end of each season, an awards ceremony is held to celebrate students' achievements and to present them with certificates. This event is always a highlight for students and volunteers alike!
There are four sailing sessions on each Sailability week. Within each session, there is a weekly rotation of students on the various boats to ensure each student gains experience in sailing a variety of different craft.
During the sailing season, student sessions are held every Wednesday and Thursday - weather, public holidays and school terms permitting. The separate sessions for each day are listed below:
As part of the SailGP’s gender-balanced youth and community engagement program, “Inspire Learning” and “Adopt a Club” programme, Sailability was treated last week with a visit from two Olympic champions.
There is no typical day at DOSC Sailability, powered by GAC, but our timeline will give you an idea about what the experience is like for both students and volunteers.
