Job Description

Racing & Event Manager

4. Job Purpose

The Racing & Event Manager will oversee the planning and delivery of the racing calendar and the resourcing of race events, as well as running the youth racing academy. The role creates and leads pathways into racing and supports active racers, while promoting the RYA Racing Charter and relevant initiatives from World Sailing, IRC, and RORC. The Racing & Event Manager should be an avid sailor who connects easily with people and builds strong relationships with locals, suppliers, and crews.

5. Responsibilities

  • Manage development, delivery, and cost forecasting of racing programmes for keelboats and dinghies, covering club racing and regattas at national and international level
  • Plan and develop the annual racing calendar
  • Design and manage race documents including Notices of Race and Sailing Instructions
  • Deliver all racing pathways and associated training programmes
  • Work with the Centre Manager and Marine Operations Manager to ensure joint team success
  • Ensure smooth running of the youth race academy
  • Organise and deliver key youth events
  • Supervise racing instructors
  • Provide dotted line management for relevant sailing staff
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with relevant departmental policies
  • Deliver race events to a high standard and in compliance with stakeholder policies
  • Support staff development
  • Ensure compliance with international racing rules and safety requirements
  • Support marketing activities
  • Source and secure sponsors for club and racing events
  • Sit on the Sailing Sub Committee

6. Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of sailboat racing within a club or training centre environment
  • Working knowledge of RYA Racing programmes
  • Relevant previous experience as a Racing Manager or in a related position
  • IT literate with MS Office and the ability to learn specific software
