DOSC Members Night | Around the world: Solo

📅 Date: Monday 26th May
📍 Venue: Tentola Thanda
⏰ Time: 7pm

Dear Members,

Ever wondered what it’s like to sail around the world—completely alone, non-stop, and powered only by the wind?

Join us at our upcoming Members’ Night at DOSC, where Abhilash Tomy—the first Indian to complete a solo, non-stop circumnavigation under sail—shares his extraordinary story.

Widely known as Titanium Tomy due to the implants in his spine, and the MacGyver of the Seas due to his genius-level problem-solving skills, Abhilash is one of the most well-known ocean sailors from India. In 2012- 13, Abhilash became the first Indian to complete a single handed , non-stop circumnavigation of the earth under sail. After spending 151 days at sea, he was received by the Honorable President of India in Mumbai. In 2018, Abhilash attempted the Golden Globe Race, a solo, non-stop around the world race using 1968 technology. The race ended dramatically when he suffered multiple spine fractures in a storm in the southern Indian Ocean. Abhilash was rescued following one the largest and remotest search and rescue efforts of this century. Undeterred by the loss of his boat and personal injury, Abhilash reattempted the race in 2022 flying the UAE flag on boat SV Bayanat to win the second place after spending 236 days at sea.

From navigating towering waves to surviving extreme isolation, Abhilash brings to life the challenges and triumphs of one of sailing’s most demanding feats.

Don’t miss this inspiring evening of adventure, endurance, and passion for the open sea.

See you there!
