The Tuesday Night Pursuit Race (TNPR) is a long, long-standing pillar of sailing life at DOSC. The TNPR is many things to many people: it’s a sociable evening sail with friends and family, it’s a fun race against friendly rivals and it’s a chance to practice race skills and maneuvers. A typical TNPR starts at dusk and finishes in the dark which is a really special experience and offers some of the best views of the city at night. Although a very casual affair, placings still matter to many. The pursuit race concept allows for adjustments based on performance. When boats do well they are penalized, and when boats fall behind they are given an advantage. In the next week’s start times, the math behind the start time adjustment is more of a dark art, and the man behind the math is Keelboat Member, Lee Brown. Lee has been instrumental in developing the TNPR results system, and the last 12 months have been a resounding success.
