21-22 Season: Keelboat Runners & Riders
Better late than never, here are the runners and riders for this seasons Commodores Cup Keelboat Series. Armed with the hindsight of Fridays’ results from race day one, here’s a run down of the teams challenging for the podium this season. Friday was a hot and humid day and pushed crews to the limit, but the relief to be racing again was inescapable.
IRC Cruiser
Points were spilt at the top between Mojo and Searenity and by only seconds on corrected time. These two teams will no doubt be frequent visitors to the podium whilst being closely challenged by Feochan. There are still 3 boats awaiting IRC certificates, so the field is wide open.
IRC 3
Don’t be fooled into thinking this will be a two-horse race between old adversaries Just Us and Al Awal! Fresh from summer refit is Drama Queen, out the traps well on day 1 and will no doubt be looking to unseat the regulars. Kadaitcha is improving every race and may not have to wait long for their day on the podium.
IRC2
The biggest fleet but with most of the top half able to pick up a podium spot, so don’t expect the same podium twice. Twister, coolly capitalized on the absence of Rush Knot and the retirement of Kanoloa. Knot Again put themselves firmly in the mix clearly stating their intentions. Debutants Bluey and Switchblade banked some solid counters with plenty of room for improvement. It won’t just be the front of the fleet worth watching, there will be battles all the way down the leader board. Every position will be fought for.
IRC 1
Strong start for Claire Du Lune, doing what they do well – win. Matrix and Nagini will have her in their sights set on CDL, but will concentrate on beating the other for second or going for the win? All three will feel there’s still something left in the tank. The margins were close and continue to get closer. Fewest mistakes will win. With potential race winners expected to join the fleet for the Coastal Races. The eventual season standings will reflect who can keep the part time challengers at bay.
