e-SAILING at dosc

While our boats remain berthed, DOSC will be facilitating a club racing series on Virtual Regatta Inshore.  We may not be able to sail offshore physically right now, but we can certainly keep our skills honed and engage in a spot of friendly eSailing competition with other DOSC Members!

Join us for the new DOSC eSailing experience. Everything you need to know should be included below. If not, please contact us by email with your questions and feedback.

Virtual Regatta is a free online resource for sailing enthusiasts everywhere.

The game can be accessed from your laptop or PC, or you can download the app to your tablet or mobile phone.  Although the basic version of the game is free, there are  limitations on the number of races you can enter each day. For those who are very keen, you can upgrade to a paid monthly VIP subscription for enhanced access, or you can purchase in-app game credits.

Find out more about Virtual Regatta.

    • Download the app  to your mobile or tablet, or go to: https://www.virtualregatta.com/en/
    • Create a user login and profile  – this enables you to compete and keep track of your score
    • When setting up your account pseudo, use the prefix ‘DOSC’. For example ‘DOSC RC Andy’, ‘DOSC Switchy Chris’, ‘DOSC Laser1234’. This will make it easier to search and find other DOSC members to race against.
    • Click ‘play now’ on the inshore game.
    • Get ready to race!

DOSC will be hosting e-races across different classes on different days – the standard start time will be 6.30 pm.

    • Please try to log on at least 5-10 minutes before the start so we know how many sailors to expect per race. This helps us to more accurately set the maximum number of players, which affects the length of the start line.
    • Each Race Event will be made up of three consecutive races.
    • As soon as one race finishes, use that day’s race code to enter the next race. If the code is rejected, keep trying!
    • If the race administrator encounters any connection problems, there may be a delay.
    • Each race lasts between 5 to 10 minutes, plus the start sequence and finishing times. Expect each race to last around 30 minutes in total.
    • The cut off time for race start is 7.30pm, regardless of if we encounter any delays or problems.
    • The top three sailors from each series will be invited to compete in the DOSC SailGP on Thursday 30th April. There will be 10 spots available with spare spots being assigned to ‘Wild Card’ entries.
    • Although we aim to record results, there are no actual prizes for eSailing – this is about keeping our community connected while we do our civic duty by socially isolating at home
    • Outside of the set fleet racing events, sailors can challenge friends online to Match Races at any time. These are a lot of fun and good practice.
