The official opening of the new season!
Lots of chances to get back on the water for some pre-season practice.
Friday 17th
Back To The Front Coaching Day
Open Coaching Day with separate events for dinghies and keelboats.
The morning will feature bite-sized seminars from experienced sailors and coaches on various topics such as rules, starting and sail-shape.
In the afternoon, there will be coached practice racing on separate race courses for keelboats and dinghies.
This day is aimed at all club racers even if you are new to racing, sailing a new boat or have just plain forgotten everything over Summer.
Saturday 18th – Dinghies
The first official race of the DOSC season will take shape in the form of Dinghy Saturday Series Race 1 and the postponed launch of Get Racing Club.
The Saturday Series hosts for fleets racing on PY HCap:
- Optimist Fleet
- Green Fleet (Slow Handicap boats)
- Gold Fleet (Laser Standards, Radials and 8.1s)
- Red Fleet (Fast Handicap boats)
Along side the Saturday Series will be Get Racing Club. This is a new concept aimed at beginner or novice dinghy racers. Mainly aimed at the old ones but youngsters welcome also. One of the Sailing Team will meet you before the race and run through a theme of the day. On top of the day’s theme, your coach will also be able to guide you through the course, the start signals, provide a refresher on the rules, and give advice on rigging and launching also. Your coach will be on the water to give you a few pointers along the way and to keep a close eye.
Please note that there is a small charge for Get Racing Club and it is best to be booked in advance. For more details please email sailingmanager@doscuae.com .
Saturday 18th – Keelboat Dust Remover
The Keelboat Dust Remover is a great opportunity for some pre-season practice for helms and crews. Permission is granted to use last seasons IRC rating so we can produce fairly accurate results, however the idea of the event is to give crews a chance to practice in real racing situations. If the conditions allow, we will run 3 x 1 lap races with a leeward mark after the finish. Multiple races give more opportunities for starts and the leeward mark after the finish line means crews can decide if they want to practice a live spinnaker drop or take their time. Remember conditions will still be warm and possibly humid, so look after your humans.
