The Commodore’s Cup Keelboat Short Handed Series

As you are aware, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a wide-ranging impact on the Club’s activities, causing us to suspend our sailing operations at the end of last season and even temporarily close our doors for the first time. Without doubt the single biggest challenge DOSC has ever had to face.

This sailing season will also be impacted. Our new operating environment means that in order to continue to offer a racing series for the Commodore’s Cup we will need to race under a unique set of restrictions. For many of our keelboats these restrictions will mean Total Crew (passengers plus crew) numbers are reduced.

A few weeks ago, the SSC held a briefing where we discussed this and other items including discrepancies between similar boats in their licensed crew/passenger numbers. Based on member feedback over the subsequent weeks, we have decided to establish the Commodore’s Cup, Keelboat Short Handed Series, to be sailed in-lieu of the regular Commodore’s Cup.

All previously notified dates for keelboat racing remain the same.

The Commodore’s Cup Keelboat Series will return to DOSC when the prevailing restrictions on crew numbers are suitably eased or lifted and we can better support the level of competition our sailors expect.

We hope you will all enjoy this series and look forward to seeing you on the water soon.
