4. Job Purpose

The Racing and Events Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of DOSC’s racing calendar and events, as well as leading the Youth Racing Academy. The role develops competitive sailing pathways, promotes the club’s racing initiatives, and ensures the smooth execution of all regattas and sailing events.

5. Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage DOSC race events, regattas, and sailing programmes.
  • Develop and oversee pathways for youth and high performance sailors, supporting progression to national and international competition.
  • Ensure compliance with RYA, World Sailing, IRC, and RORC standards.
  • Collaborate with the management team to enhance racing strategy, resourcing, and member engagement.
  • Manage event logistics, staffing, and volunteer coordination to ensure a seamless racing experience.

6. Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience in sailing event management and coaching, preferably in youth and high performance sailing.
  • Strong knowledge of RYA, World Sailing, IRC, and RORC regulations and best practices.

Job Description

4. Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated RYA Cruising Instructor to join the team at Dubai Offshore Sailing Club. This role is key to delivering exceptional training, mentoring students, ensuring compliance with RYA standards, and supporting the smooth operation of our cruising programme. The successful candidate will be passionate about sailing education, committed to maintaining the highest safety standards, and actively engaged in supporting the club’s mission of providing world-class sailing experiences.

5. Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the team to deliver a safe, enjoyable, and professional training experience in line with the RYA syllabus
  • Deliver both RYA-accredited and club-specific courses in accordance with DOSC standards, policies, and procedures
  • Liaise with the Chief Instructor and Centre Manager, promptly reporting maintenance issues or damage to training yachts
  • Take responsibility for the upkeep and presentation of training yachts, including cleaning, inventory checks, and coordinating maintenance as needed
  • Ensure training yachts meet all RYA compliance and safety requirements
  • Maintain the highest levels of safety for students, staff, and equipment at all times
  • Provide outstanding customer service, acting as a knowledgeable and approachable representative of DOSC
  • Support additional club initiatives and tasks as requested by the Chief Instructor or Sailing Centre Manager

6. Qualifications & Skills

  • RYA Cruising Instructor with commercial endorsement (essential)
  • RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore with commercial endorsement
  • Working knowledge of the RYA training scheme and its standards
  • VHF Operator’s Licence
  • Valid First Aid Certificate & ENG 1 Medical
  • Basic yacht maintenance and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation

Job Description

3. Reports To

Chief Bosun & Sailing Operations Manager

4. Job Purpose

The Bosun is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of the club’s boats, equipment, and associated facilities. The role requires strong technical skills in fiberglass and epoxy work, hands-on support during boat launches (particularly SB20s), and the ability to ensure that all vessels and equipment are kept in top condition.

5. Responsibilities

Boat Maintenance & Repairs

  • Carry out routine and emergency repairs on club boats, ribs, and sailing dinghies as directed by the Chief Bosun & Sailing Operations Manager
  • Perform fiberglass and epoxy repairs to hulls, foils, and structural components
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment and maintain accurate service records
  • Ensure all boats, engines, and safety gear are serviceable and meet safety standards
  • Report all defects to the Chief Bosun & Sailing Operations Manager
  • Assist specialist contractors brought in to work on the vessels

Boat Handling & Launch Support

  • Assist with the launching, recovery, and storage of SB20s and other club vessels
  • Operate boat movers, trailers, and lifting equipment safely and efficiently
  • Provide hands-on support for regattas and events, including boat rigging, de-rigging, and race setup

General Bosun Duties

  • Maintain an organized and safe workshop/boatyard area
  • Assist members, instructors, and visiting sailors with boat handling needs
  • Support the sailing centre and marina team with day-to-day operations
  • Contribute to the upkeep of the marina, slipways, and storage facilities
  • Comply with the instructions relating to safety and maintenance standards issued by the Chief Bosun & Sailing Operations Manager
  • Be familiar with the vessels’ layouts, facilities, and stowage ensuring that everything on the boat is properly stowed at all times
  • Maintain good relations and communication with volunteers, especially support groups and race volunteers

6. Qualifications & Skills

  • Two years previous experience as Bosun or related position
  • Proven experience in boat maintenance, including fiberglass and epoxy repairs
  • Knowledge of SB20s, sailing dinghies, and small powerboats is preferred
  • Strong practical skills in mechanical, electrical, or rigging repair is an advantage
  • Ability to operate trailers, tractors, and lifting equipment
  • Physically fit and able to handle the demands of boat launching and maintenance
  • Safety-conscious with attention to detail
  • Team player with good communication skills
