Race Academy at the 43rd Lake Garda Optimist Meeting

The 43rd Optimist Meeting at Lake Garda was the first time many of our senior team had sailed in fleets with over 150 boats on any one start line – but they rose to the occassion!

The week started with 3-4 days of training in light winds, not typical for Lake Garda. And the inconsistent wind, with anything from 2 knots to 22 knots, tested the team when racing began.

During the first three days, the 850+ sailors were assigned into different fleets. In the last day they were split into fleets according to their ranking.

With a few top twenty positions under his belt Lucca easily qualified for gold. And if it wasn’t for a black flag (that just shows he was pushing hard ), he would have ultimately finished in the top 50.

On the last day the DOSC sailors did superb! Eddie had a commanding lead in his first race and was untouchable in the Silver fleet.

Likewise in the Emerald fleet Luka had a dog fight to hold onto his lead, making sure to keep himself between the fleet and the finishing line to clinch a race win!

We are so proud of all the DOSC sailors and grateful to their coaches for the dedication and effort they put into giving the team the best chance! Not forgetting the parents (AKA Managers!)

Bring on the SARF Nationals next weekend!!
