Racing In March | Update 16 March 2021

At the request of Dubai Sports Council, sailors aged 18 and over taking part in competitive racing must have either a full vaccination certificate or a negative PCR test dated no more than 72 hours before the event. Sailors under the age of 18 are temporarily not permitted to take part in competitive events.

The Tuesday night keelboat pursuit race will take place on Thursdays so those requiring a PCR test to take part can utilise the same test to race on Thursday and possibly the weekend as well.

Administratively the weekend events need to be grouped together, this is why each weekend is named as a ‘regatta’, although each event is separate. That means sailors can take part in 1 or multiple events.

The races taking part in March are stand alone events and do not count to any series, although all racing is based as closely as possible on what the sailors were expecting from the original calendar. We have also added some events to give each weekend more value for those whom have to go through the PCR test process.

Additional Events May be Scheduled

Keelboats – Inshore
There will be a pursuit race on Thursday evening that will use the traditional ‘Tuesday Night Pursuit Race’ Course and the start times will adjust race to race.

There will also be an Inshore Race. This will be up to 3 windward leeward races with a target time of 1 hour per race. There will be a briefing to explain the course and answer any questions before the race. DMCA Crew restrictions still apply.

Dinghy
Sadly U18s are temporarily suspended from taking part in competitive events.

A Sailing League Tournament is scheduled. The club’s fleet of RS Ventures are provided for racing. The races are short with lots of action! Sailing League days are a lot of fun as sailors get to race many times against different sailors in the same boat on a short course. Races are around 10 minutes long with a busy tournament schedule of multiple races. Sailors swap in and out of the boats and take turns sailing and spectating. If you haven’t already tried Sailing League you must!

J22 / SB20
After positive feedback from the 13th March Event, additional racing is being potentially planned for the 27th March subject to resource availability.

How To Take Part

Step 1 online boat entry form. All boats need to enter prior to the regatta no matter if they are only taking part in one race or more than one race. It is important to enter in advance so the Race Committee can calculate start times and understand fleet sizes.

Dinghy and Keelboat events require a separate registration form, even if the same sailor is taking part in both.

Keelboats: If you don’t know your boat’s NHC number please click here to view the RYA Base List.
Dinghies: If you don’t know your boat’s PY number please click here to view the RYA Base List.

If you wish to change any details (such as sail number or class) on your registration form after you have submitted please email: sailingadmin@doscuae.com

Step 2 PCR Test or Vaccination Certificate. All sailors taking part must have a full vaccination certificate or negative test result. Please submit evidence for the complete crew of a boat by email to info@doscuae.com accompanied by photo ID or present hard copies to reception. Individual crew cannot register separately, this will take too much time to process. (The showing of mobile phone screens / text results cannot be accepted, the club must hold a copy of either requirement.)

If you have a full vaccination certificate and you are happy the club holding this data this will make future regatta entry much easier.

Any sailors who do not meet these Covid-19 Protection measures are not permitted to take part in any regatta event.

UNDER 18s Sailors under 18 on the date of the event are not permitted to take part; we hope this restriction will be lifted very soon.

Step 3 – Sign On – Race – Sign Off. Signing on and off must be done on the day of racing in the time periods detailed in the Sailing Instructions. This is a safety requirement and failure to do so my incur a penalty.

Step 4 – Stay Safe. Even after vaccination or a negative PCR test it is still very important to stay safe and follow all Covid-19 Protection Measures.

  • Do not attend if you are feeling unwell or have a high temperature
  • Consider arriving at the club changed and ready to sail
  • Social distance as much as possible
  • Practice good hand hygiene
  • Wear a mask at all times
  • Race as much as possible with family or people within a small bubble
