SAILABILITY’S KATY NEWITT SAILS TO CYPRUS

Katy Newitt, an active participant in our weekly DOSC Sailability Program, has embarked on a journey to Cyprus with friends Doug and Clare Hassell aboard their 45ft yacht called Diablo. Their team of 5 departed DOSC in early January and will be traveling to the gorgeous country of Cyprus. Their 3,000 mile sail will take them along the coasts of Oman and Yemen, to the Red Sea towards the Suez Canal and then to the Mediterranean.

Katy, who lost her eyesight due to Retinitis Pigmentosa, will be involved in preparing meals, cleaning, and tiding the yacht and of course helming Diablo with the aid of Sara, a talking compass. Last we heard, Katy had adjusted well to life on board and Diablo were heading for a 24 hour stop in Djibouti.

Our involvement with our Sailability participants humbles us and teaches us that life is truly magnificent and when you put your mind to it, no matter what your obstacles are in life, you can do anything. Katy is true testimony to this. You can follow their blog http://blog.mailasail.com/Diablo
